St George Cricket Club’s Trent Copeland and Kurtis Patterson have been named in a 13-man NSW Sheffield Shield squad for the round five match against Queensland starting on Sunday at Mackay.
It is the first time a Sheffield Shield match will be played at Harrup Park, Mackay.
Fast bowler Copeland is the St George first grade captain.
He has been added to the squad to replace his injured St George teammate all-rounder Moises Henriques.
Henriques, who has captained NSW several times this season with Steve Smith away from the team as Australian captain, tore his calf muscle bowling against Queensland last Friday.
Former Sutherland player Nic Maddinson, 23, is the seventh current or former Sutherland District Cricket Club player to captain NSW.
The previous Sutherland players to captain the Blues before are Andrew Hilditch, Steve Rixon, John Dyson, Stuart MacGill, Stuart Clark and Steve Smith.
Maddison is NSW's 117th first class captain.
The left-handed batsman made his debut for NSW against South Australia at Adelaide Oval, in the match played from October 11-14, 2010.
The last time Copeland played for NSW was in the 2014-15 Sheffield Shield final when the Blues played against Western Australia in Canberra.
NSW drew the final but won the shield competition after they finished on top of the table following the competition rounds ahead of second placed Western Australia.
Last season Copeland bowled a handful of overs for St George and played purely as a batsman because of back stress fractures and did not play a game for NSW.
But this season Copeland has been in consistent form for the NSW second XI in the Futures League matches.
He took 3-19 and 2-9 as NSW trounced Tasmania by an innings and 81 runs last week in Coffs Harbour.
NSW defeated Queensland by seven wickets in the Sheffield Shield game that finished on Monday at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Patterson, who bats No.3 or No.4 for St George, made an unbeaten 31 for NSW in the second innings.
Nic Maddinson will captain NSW for the first time.
The final XI will be named at the toss on Sunday.
NSW are third on the Sheffield Shield ladder with 17.8 points.
NSW 13-man squad: Nic Maddinson (C), Sean Abbott, Trent Copeland, Kurtis Patterson, Doug Bollinger, Ryan Carters, Ed Cowan, Daniel Hughes, Josh Lalor, Stephen O’Keefe, Ben Rohrer, Gurinder Sandhu, Will Somerville.
