IT WAS a big night for Liverpool fans when their legends team took on an Australian Legends team in Sydney last Thursday and it was even more special for the Merrison family.
Joe Merrison, a Kirrawee High School student, was chosen as Steven Gerrard's mascot to lead the players out of the tunnel.
The 13-year-old Liverpool fanatic, who holds Gerrard as his football idol, was stunned to receive the chance to rub shoulders with his hero.
The amazing experience came about through the Liverpool Supporter's Club of NSW which also included meeting the Red's legends.
Joe's sister Amy was also given the chance to lead Liverpool defender John Arne Riise onto the pitch.
It was also a big night for the St George Warriors.
The Warriors, made up of children with special needs, combined with the St George Football Association Skills Aquisition Program under-11s team to play at half-time during the main match.
It was a once in a lifetime experience for the 15 young players, who were supported by a group of young players from Carss Park FC, as they ensured the Warriors' red, white and maroon was proudly on show alongside the famous red of Liverpool.
The appearance was an exciting start to the year for the St George association who will include State League licensed teams and girls' skills acquisition program teams for the first time.
