As a resident of Shelly Beach, Cronulla, for three years, I have noticed an increase in street parking. At night, no street parking is available from Shelly Beach to Cronulla on Ewos Parade and all the side streets are parked out.
At the present time two more blocks of units and being built at Shelly Beach on Ewos Parade. Hundreds of units are being built in Sutherland Shire, with limited parking of one vehicle per unit.
The problem is exacerbated by the fact that most units with a single garage use it for storage, not parking, and in most cases have more than one car.
I have no objection to change; however, I feel that Sutherland Council to whom we pay our rates and the state government who receive our car registration payments should get together now, sooner than later and build another one or two parking stations similar to the one in Croydon Street, Cronulla.
The Croydon Street parking station is full at times. I have friends who will not come to Cronulla because of the parking. The infrastructure is needed now, not in the years to come. People power is needed to have this problem fixed.
There are many residents like myself who don't have a garage or a car space. I park on the street.
When the units are built on Shelly Beach, where will these extra vehicles park?
