IT HASN’T taken long for new kitchen hand Adam Jamgotchian to settle in and boost morale at St George Leagues Club.
Adam, who has a mild intellectual disability, works 10 hours a week over two days including coming in on short notice for special occasions.
In his job he washes dishes and keeps utensils clean at the Brasserie.
He said his new role at the Club has enhanced his social skills and made him feel more confident.
“I enjoy my job at St George Leagues Club and it’s been great to get to know other people at the club while making some money,” he said.
The 20-year-old is a graduate of the NSW Government’s Transition to Work program, delivered by NOVA Employment at Hurstville.
The program helps young people with disability gain employment after school.
St George Leagues Club General Manager Danny Robinson said that employing a person with disability has been great for team morale.
“The Club is a big supporter of giving people a go who might not otherwise have been given a chance,’’ he said.
‘’Hiring Adam has worked out fantastically for everyone involved - it’s been a really positive experience for our staff and visitors.
“Adam’s confidence has definitely grown and it’s there for everyone to see with his willingness to work and a big smile.
‘’Clubs are here for the community and offering jobs to people from all walks of life is part of that.”
Mr Jamgotchian was recognised when he met with Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka on Friday.
