It’s been a week to remember for Cronulla surfers with the remnant swell from ex-cyclone Victor providing plenty of good waves on all our beaches.
I took this week’s pictures at the Alley where if you picked your time you could have surfed by yourself and at one point on Friday it was as good as it gets with no one out.
The Swellnet outlook remains fairly benign for the start of this week, with most swell windows remaining pretty quiet and the one meter waves we have had to slowly fade away.
Tomorrow looks to be the next day of significant surf following a gusty southerly change that is due to blow through.
The change itself is looking to move up the coast overnight on Wednesday, causing a strong increase in short range, low quality windswell.
The banks on our beaches are also on top of their game with significant gutters and rips every 100 meters along the Bate Bay strip.
They are tide dependent so if you can choose your timing it’s worth the wait.
Seven champions were crowned at the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp held at Victoria’s Ocean Grove Beach last weekend with Cronulla’s Jarvis Earle making the final of the under-14s boys and finishing third, less than half a point behind first-placed Ethan Huxtable.
Ethan Ewing and Macy Callaghan have taken out the Burleigh Pro presented by Bruce Lynton Land Rover in tough conditions at one of the world’s most iconic point breaks on the Gold Coast.
It was an exciting day for the young Australian stablemates as they claimed their first ever World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series victories.
“This is the biggest win of my career, I’m so stoked,” Ewing said.
“The conditions weren’t that great today so I lowered my expectations. I knew I had to get a good start and managed to get a couple of decent scores.”
This week the World Surf league descends on the shores of Northern New South Wales with day one of the Telstra Stores Tweed Coast Pro starting at Cabarita Beach.
This is contest number two in the series which was developed for Australian and international surfers to gain ranking points and prize money on the WSL Qualifying Series.
Elouera hot shots Connor O’Leary, Jared Hickel and Shane Campbell are seeded into round four due to their current rating points.
