Lorna McClelland, the guiding light behind one of St George’s most prominent political families, has died at 86.
Doug McClelland, her husband of 66 years, was a minister in the Whitlam government and president of the Senate, while their son Robert was MP for Barton and federal Attorney-General.
Mrs McClelland died in St George Private Hospital on Monday two months after a fall, which led to medical complications.
“Lorna was a vibrant person, who loved the St George district, was involved heavily in the community and was a Dragons supporter through and through,” Mr McClelland said.
“She was my guide, my adviser, my friend and a wonderful mother, who dedicated herself to seeing her children received a better education than she had.”
The couple’s three chilldren, Robert, Jan and Sue were all captains of Blakehurst High School, and went on to stellar careers in different fields.
