Menai High School has the chance to add another prize to their collection in the national final of the F1 in Schools competition.
Five year 10 students, team “Momentum”, who are previous regional champions and NSW champions in the development class category, are gearing up for the next stage of the event.
F1 in Schools is a popular event that encourages youth to develop a passion for design and engineering.
In 2016 the team moves into the professional class category, and will compete against team “Fast Payce” from Engadine High School.
Team Momentum previously won the overall state title, best marketing and branding, best managed enterprise, best graphic design and best portfolio.
Team manager Tegan Whitfield said the students were ready to compete.
“We won the Australian titles in 2008 and came fourth in the world titles in 2009, so we are aiming to do even better this time around,” she said.
“We pride ourselves on our innovation, incorporating 3D printing in the design and engineering of our car.”
The national finals are on from February 29 to March 4 at Penrith.
