The Rockdale City Aquatic Centre will be renamed in honour of former Rockdale councillor Angelo Anestis
Mr Anestis, 85, died in November at St George Hospital in Kogarah.
In his memory the new pool will be called the Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre.
It was Mr Anestis who moved a motion at a 2008 council meeting to improve the Bexley pool that ultimately led to the construction of the Rockdale City Aquatic Centre.
Mr Anestis, a Bardwell Park resident of 30 years, was a councillor in first ward from 2004 to 2012 and distinguished himself as a hard worker at a time when many people his age retired.
He was a member of the Rockdale chapter of the Australasian Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) from 1990 and served as a chapter president.
He was president of the Kos Association of NSW and treasurer of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW. He was a life member of the NSW branch of the Labor Party.
