An Eastern Snake-necked Turtle found an unusual home after it was found on the sand at Ramsgate Beach.
Ramsgate Life Saving Club members found the turtle near a storm water outlet on Sunday, February 1.
It was a special treat for younger club members with many having never seen a turtle in the Rockdale area before.
The club contacted Rockdale Council who said the best home would be the Bicentennial Park wetlands.
The Eastern Snake-necked Turtle is found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and parts of South Australia.
It lives in freshwater habitats which made spotting it on Ramsgate beach so unusual.
Most of the turtle’s time is spent in the water but it can travel over land in search of water or a new home.
