Sutherland’s Steve Smith has taken over the Australian Twenty20 captaincy for next month’s T20 World Cup in India.
Smith, already captain of the Test and one-day teams, was named skipper of the T20 team on Tuesday replacing Aaron Finch who, despite the demotion, has retained his place in the World Cup squad.
There is a strong Sutherland flavour to the Australian team, with Shane Watson and former Sharks captain Adam Zampa also named in the 15-man squad.
St George quick Josh Hazlewood is also in the squad after having a standout summer with the ball.
The T20 World Cup starts on March 8, with the final to be played on April 3.
Australia’s first match will be against New Zealand on March 18.
