I am asking these questions in the hope that if and when Sutherland Shre Council responds such might be published so as, ALL users of The Esplanade, Cronulla will better understand what is legal and what is not.
1. Is it legal for bicycle riders to ride on The Esplanade walkway between North Cronulla and Bass and Flinders Point?
2. When part of the pathways were made a shared facility North of North Cronulla was there a community/user consultative process undertaken? If not why not?
3. Why do council signs still exist on the walkways where there is a shared facility and all the way to Bass And Flinders Point stating ‘No Bicycles’ ?
4. Should there be an injury caused to a pedestrian by a bicycle rider in the shared or non legal (if there is one) zone’s who is liable, the council, the bicycle rider who carries no insurance or the pedestrian?
5. If there are area’s upon the walkways were bicycle riding is not permitted why is is not policed, better signage and a greater information campaign undertaken to educate users, likewise if it is legal undertake an education campaign to let us all know what is going on.
As a regular user of the walkways between Elouera and Bass and Flinders it is only a matter of time before there is a serious accident between a bicycle and pedestrian if such has not occurred already.
I am not anti-bicycle riders but there needs to be speed limits and their warning to pedestrians that they are approaching then from behind.
Sutherland Shier Council, you spend lots of rate payers money along the waterfront how about telling users what is legal and what is not.
