Re the article ‘’Emergency spike’’ (Leader, March 9).
Emergency departments are meant to be for very sick people and emergencies.
People nowadays are pathetic acopic and expect their smallest and most minor medical problems to be dealt with immediately.

If you’re well enough to ask bugger off and see your GP the next day.

I agree with the hospital. Some people turn up with very minor complaints that wouldn’t even need a doctor.

While nursing a swollen ankle, I read the article about too many people presenting at ED with frivolous medical "emergencies", so I just took some paracetamol, put on a video, and relaxed for a few hours.
Guess what? The swelling came down.
