Meet Ash the four-legged wonder dog, who is fast becoming Cronulla’s most famous surfer.
With her paws firmly gripped on the board, dry land is second rate choice for this three-year-old black British staffordshire.
Wander down to Greenhills Beach of an early morning or late afternoon walk, and there she is catching some fierce waves.
The dog’s owner, Paul Novotny, of Woolooware, said Ash took to surfing with ease.
“I’m a surfer and we’re always on the water together – we didn’t want her to be scared of water,” he said.
“Dogs are usually terrified of surf but she’s liked it since she was a pup.
“She’s a water dog, and even though she’s only surfed about 10 times, she took to it straight away...it’s always about play time.
“She knows what she’s doing, she just waits for me to give her a push before she sits then stands, and puts her feet forward ready for the dismount.”
Her technique is not only impressive, it’s been attracting plenty of onlookers.
“Everyone in the area knows she’s clever,” Mr Novotny said.
“When we made the video all these people were lined up on the beach filming it with their phones, and then they’d clap as she’d get dumped.
“The life vest gives me something to hang on to, like a handle of a handbag.”
Her antics also caught the eye of a US television series called Animals Doing Human Things, after producers spotted the surfing staffy on YouTube.
