Bexley Bowling and Recreation Club will be turfed from its Laycock Street site after Rockdale Council voted not to accept its tender.
In October the council resolved to use its new community facilities — occupancy renewal policy to evaluate the expired tenancies of St George PCYC and Bexley Bowling and Community Club.
Councillors then passed a motion to open tenders for the use of the two facilities.
At the April 20 council meeting councillors voted to accept a tender from the Order of the Australiasian Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) NSW for the former bowling club site.
Club President Mary Cameron said the result was disappointing but not a surprise.
‘’You have to throw your hat into the ring but we weren’t that surprised we weren’t successful,’’ she said.
‘’Our aim the whole way through was to keep it in the community so people can enjoy it.
‘’Hopefully with the change our community groups will still be able to use it.’’
Rockdale Council also declined to accept any of the tenders for the St George PCYC site.
Instead they voted to enter into negotiations with both the Police Citizens Youth Clubs Inc and Coptic Orthodox Church St Mark.
PCYC NSW chief executive Darren Black said they would prefer to remain at the site.
‘’PCYC has presented the council with a strong plan to upgrade the facility in order to make it more functional and welcoming for the community and youth of the Rockdale and St George area,’’ he said.
‘’We will be in further dialogue with the council in the coming weeks and are hopeful of reaching a positive outcome to ensure PCYC is able to continue to serve the community of Rockdale for many years to come.’’
Negotiations on the PCYC site will be referred back to Council on May 18.
A Rockdale Council spokesman said they were progressing through approvals required to formalise the council resolution.
He said no date had been set on when the AHEPA would take over the Bexley site.
