A chance meeting on the tennis court was the beginning of the game of love for Norm and Beryl Butters.
The couple married on June 30, 1956, in St George, at Beverly Hills Methodist Church.
They honeymooned on Lord Howe Island, arriving in grand style on one of the original flying boats.
Mr Butters was born at Oatley, where the pair have lived their entire lives together.
They raised two daughters, and have alsp welcomed three grandsons into their family. Together they have been active and dedicated members of the Oatley and Kogarah communities.
They helped to set up Oatley Senior Citizens in 1970 and have been heavily involved with the Kogarah Historical Society for many years.
Mr and Mrs Butters believe their secret to a long marriage is “lots of patience’’ and no matter how difficult things may get ‘’never losing your sense of humour.”
It will also be a double celebration for the happy couple this year, because Mrs Butters will mark her 90th birthday on July 19.
