A new play which follows the life of a woman struggling under a life of sacrifice will premier at the Rockdale Arts Festival on Saturday.
Created by the Australian Macedonian Theatre of Sydney The Suitcase reveals what life is like for Angela who has sacrificed for her children to have a better life.
It is directed by international theatre artist, Stefo Nantsou.
Actor Vasko Srbinovski plays eldest son Luke who he describes as a drug dealer and no-hoper.
‘’Anyone who loves theatre will enjoy this,’’ he said.
‘’It’s one of our best plays.’’
His role is a lifetime away from his normal life living in the Illawarra but he loves the challenge.
‘’Every role is difficult; you have to get out of yourself,’’ he said.
‘’I always study the characters and try to bring in behaviours that I’ve observed.
‘’It brings a bit more to the role.’’
Despite acting for years he still gets nervous before stepping on stage.
‘’You always get butterflies and the first couple of minutes you really feel it,’’ he said.
‘’Doing it for so long they’re still there but they don’t seem to last as long.’’
The play will premier at the Macedonian Cultural Centre Ilinden at Rockdale Saturday, May 7.
A matinee performance will be held the next day before the production heads to Bankstown and Wollongong.
A final performance will be held in Rockdale on May 28.
