Tying the Knot: Wedding Stories and Beyond, a new exhibition looking at the history of weddings in St George region opens at the Hurstville Museum and Gallery on Saturday, May 21.
The exhibition is the result of a public call by Hurstville Museum for the community to share their wedding stories and objects.
The resulting exhibition was developed in-house by Hurstville Museum and Library and showcases the personal wedding stories, photographs and memorabilia of people from the Hurstville area and and beyond.
It looks at the various ways of wedding celebration, the most significant event for couples and their families in many cultures around the world.
Mayor Badalati said the exhibition showcases themes relating to family traditions, war-time weddings, same sex marriage, wedding cake traditions and much more.
“The exhibition will feature wedding dresses, bridal goods and accessories from across the world and is a great opportunity for visitors to explore personal wedding stories and discover a range of wedding facts they might not have known,’’ he said.
“There will also be a number of special objects on display from the Hurstville City Library Museum and Gallery collection, including delicate textiles and intricate wedding cakes,” he said.
The exhibition will open on Friday, May 20 at 6.30pm and will be on show until September 18. 2016.
