Cronulla’s very own Wildlife Man, David Ireland, will be the face of a fundraising event for Sutherland Hospital’s children’s ward next month.
Mr Ireland, well-known for his appearances on the Discovery Channel and Channel Nine, will share an hour and a half of his breathtaking stories on a diverse range of animal encounters.
There will also be live reptile displays.
The event, created by Shire Kids, aims to raise money for the children’s ward at Sutherland Hospital.
Mr Ireland has put together a show that aims to captivate and entertain children and their families.
Arguably one of the most experienced wildlife film producers in the world, Mr Ireland has been making wildlife films for more than 35 years.
He has worked with a diverse range of creatures including everything from whales and sharks to snakes, crocs, marsupials, insects, birds and African mammals.
But being the Wildlife Man has not been without danger, as chronicled in his new book, ‘The Extraordinary Life of the Wildlife Man’, released in February.
Mr Ireland’s back was broken by a whale, he has been bitten by sharks and crocs and even had his ribs smashed by a wild boar.
But his passion has always been to showcase the problems native animals face trying to survive in the modern world.
The father of four is also an experienced bushman and bow hunter and has a passion to rid Australia of feral animals that cause local extinction of endangered native animals.
The event, at Sharkies Leagues Club, is on June 4 from 4pm to 5.30pm.
Tickets for adults are $20, with kids under-14 $10.
Tickets are available on 9523 0222.
