Almost 80 per cent of the 180 apartments in the first stage of the South Village development on the Kirrawee brick pit site were sold in record time, the developer says.
Coles has been confirmed as the anchor tenant in the retail section.
Aldi was widely tipped to operate the second supermarket, but this is still not definite.
The project, which includes 749 apartments, a shopping centre and community park, has moved into top gear following approval by Sutherland Shire Council of the development application (DA).
The DA provided the detailed building plans after a revised concept plan was given the “thumbs up” by the state government’s Planning Assessment Commission in February 2015.
In the revised concept plan, the number of apartments was increased from 432 to 749.
The cost of the project, a joint venture between PAYCE and DeiCorp, is given as $700 million in a joint statement by the companies.
The companies said the former brick pit would be transformed into a “landmark mixed used development”.
“Set to become one of Sydney’s most recognised and thriving community hubs of the south, the 749-apartment development designed by world renowned architectural firm, Turner, will be distinguished by its unique integration of residential and retail precincts,’ the statement said.
“South Village will have true community and village atmosphere.”
DeiCorp managing director Fouad Deiri said he envisaged South Village would become “a residential and retail hub, as well as a continued driver of collaboration and innovation”.
“South Village has been an outstanding project from the start, with its vibrant retail hub, well thought-out apartments and its close proximity to several modes of public transport and beaches the driving force behind the project,” he said.
“We are thrilled with the huge sales response in the release of Stage 1, which has seen almost 80 per cent of the 180 apartments sold in record time.”
PAYCE’s general manager Dominic Sullivan said the open mall retail centre would be anchored by a full-line Coles supermarket and about 10,000 square metres of convenience-focused retail.
There is no marketing office for the apartments at the Kirrawee site, and sales were carried out initially from a Redfern office
