Our Lady of Mercy College at Burraneer is awaiting the arrival of a new project that will enhance learning opportunities for students.
The girls’ secondary school is gearing up for the construction of its multi-million dollar learning area.
Its flexible and contemporary design aims to take learning into the 21st century, with an innovative state-of-the-art inclusion.
Design plans include contemporary learning spaces and specialised areas for film and multimedia studies.
There will be also be a new area for science and food technology learning, indoor and outdoor spaces, an amphitheatre and gardens.
The project was funded by Sydney Catholic Schools and the college, and is being built by Morabito Constructions.
Its performing arts centre is ready for use.
College principal, Gilda Pussich, said the school was in need of an upgrade.
She said the new spaces would give students the opportunity to engage in diverse and collaborative learning.
“Our school is focused on mixing tradition and innovation,” she said.
“Learning facilities have to be just as engaging as teaching.
“If students love their space we hope they will love learning.
“In girls’ education one of the most important things is collaboration, so we’ve designed it in a way to incorporate this key aspect of their learning environment.
“It will enable students to work on their own, in small groups and as a class. where leadership and teamwork are key.”
The project is expected to be completed in June, 2016.
