Hurstville Oval has been named best cricket ground in the Sydney Cricket Association’s First Grade Ground of the Year Competition.
Hurstville Mayor Vince Badalati said this is the third consecutive year Hurstville Oval has won ‘Ground of the Year’, and the seventh time in the past 12 years.
The Ground of the Year awards acknowledge the important contribution of ground staff to the success of cricket competitions.
The Sydney Cricket Association asks cricket umpires to vote for the best ground among the 21 First Grade grounds in Sydney.
This year, Hurstville Oval scored an impressive 213.45 points as part of the umpire’s ground assessments for the 2015/2016 First Grade cricket season.
“Winning this award for three consecutive years is a real testament to the council’s dedication and commitment to ensuring local First Grade teams have professional grounds to play on,” Cr Badalati said.
“I would like to thank Hurstville Oval Superintendent Adam Lewis and his team for their efforts and dedication to ensuring the oval is kept to such a high and professional standard.”
The award was presented during the annual Premier’s Dinner which was held on Friday, April 29 at Dockside, Darling Harbour.
The Hurstville local government area has a network of 165 parks covering 248 hectares, and sports and recreation facilities including an Aquatic Leisure Centre, tennis courts and a golf course.
“Council is committed to ensuring that these parks, sporting grounds and facilities continue to be well managed for the whole community,’’ Cr Badalati said.
