The NSW Rural Fire Service have planned a hazard reduction burn at Otford on Saturday.
Approximately 20 RFS members will be present during the burn which will be carried out on private property.
A reduction burn will also be carried out at Maianbar on Friday.
Some areas of Royal National Park will be closed to the public due to the burn which will happen on both sides of Kara Karook Street.
The walking track leading from Cullen Lane to the western end of Pacific Crescent will be closed.
Also closed will be the walking track leading from the eastern end of Pacific Crescent to Bonnie Vale campground.
Acting Illawarra district manager Superintendent Greg Wardle said burns are a vital element in helping to reduce the intensity of bush fires.
“Each year only a small window of opportunity exists where weather conditions are conducive to controlled burns,” he said.
“For a hazard reduction burn to be successful we require the conditions and the ground fuels to be sufficiently dry.’’
Residents are advised to call Triple Zero only if they see a fire without a fire truck in attendance.
