It was a double celebration for the members of the Miranda RSL Women’s Auxiliary this month.
The auxiliary celebrated their 80th anniversary of serving the community their president Marjorie Wood also celebrated 60 years of service at a luncheon held at the Miranda RSL Club on Monday, May 9.
The first meeting of the auxiliary was held in February 1936 and over the years their work has ranged from providing hot breakfasts after the dawn service on Anzac Day morning, wrapping books to be placed on the Miranda war memorial and raising money for charity and organising social outings.
Their work touches all generations, assisting with the activities of the Miranda RSL Youth Club and assist veterans of the RSL Sub-branch.
Guest at the celebration lunch, Miranda MP Eleni Petinos congratulated the Miranda RSL Women’s Auxiliary on their auspicious occasion.
“It is important to acknowledge the hard working executives, past and present, who have contributed so much to our community over the years,” Ms Petinos said.
“Their hard work and dedication not only our makes our local community a great place to live, but embodies the Australian spirit of giving back,” Ms Petinos said.
The Miranda RSL Women’s Auxiliary presently has four life members: Marjorie Wood,, Eugine Brown, Margaret Treadwell and Miriam Loveday.
The Miranda RSL Women’s Auxiliary meet on the third Monday of the month and enjoy monthly outings on the fourth Monday of the month.
