May is National Honey Month and the Illawarra Beekeepers are opening their doors to the community this Sunday, providing information sessions on bees and honey tasting.
The day is set to be a big one at the facility at Waratah Park Sutherland with a wonderful insight into how honey can vary and how it’s influenced by what the bees feed on and it’s location.
The field day will include hive inspections, honey extraction and tastings and talks covering pollination, the medical use of honey, beekeeping and the life of a worker bee. Visitors will be able to open a bee hive.
There will also be a free sausage sizzle at lunch-time.
Protective clothing will be provided for those who would like to inspect the hives.
Families are welcome to attend. if you have any questions please contact the Secretary Geoff Henning at lincres@ozemail.com.au
