Shire residents are being warned to prepare for more smoky conditions on Wednesday if another hazard reduction operation goes ahead as planned.
A burn in Heathcote National Park has been organised for tomorrow – weather permitting.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) regional manager, Kane Weeks said the proposed burn will occur in the area immediately north west of Waterfall over two days.
“The burn will only go ahead if suitable weather conditions continue,” Mr Weeks said.
“For safety reasons access to Woronora Dam will be closed to the public on both Wednesday and Thursday during the burn,” he said.
“This joint operation involves NPWS fire crews and the Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers.
“Residents are being warned to prepare for potential smoky conditions.”
Mr Weeks said smoke may affect the Princes Highway and motorists are advised to drive to conditions and adhere to local signage and any direction given by fire crews.
“This burn will add to areas burnt in previous seasons in adjoining lands and will assist in reducing fuels. It will also have ecological benefits,” Mr Weeks said.
