I was interested to see that six Sutherland Shire councillors have travelled to Japan on an obscure sister city affiliation.
Let us hope none will travel ’’cattle class".
Presumably, when they return a presentation will be available of the advantages from this excursion that will benefit Sutherland Shire as well as a cost analysis.
And yet somehow, after four years of constant interaction with council, there is still no safety crossing at Kareela shops.
Priorities obviously lie elsewhere. I wonder why?

Overhead bridge eyesore
In the Leader (May 18) the Sutherland Council published the “Mayors’ Message” showing the councils’ 2016/17 Budget and Operational Plan.
This included an allocation of $1.005m for road bridge works.
I would suggest council give strong consideration to an update of the Jannali station overhead road bridge.
Built many years ago, its current condition clearly shows exactly what it is.
A very old bridge, extremely dirty looking and badly in need of reparation.
If left as it is, it will do nothing to enhance the surrounds of the new upcoming Jannali railway station.

Oh for a quiet shop
The volume of music now heard in large retail stores inside and out Westfield Miranda is now almost unbearable.
Looking through the ladies wear departments recently with the noise right above my head, no matter where I moved to, was pretty nerve-racking to say the least.
I couldn’t wait to get out of these stores and a young woman with a baby in a stroller told me the baby was not going to sleep with all the noise.
Even the supermarket had loud music most of the time.
Years ago my doctor stated that ‘‘young people would be going deaf by the age of 40 as a result of this loud annoying sound’’.
Oh for a quiet shop or one with gentle music to ‘‘sooth the soul’’.
