It was a case of close but no cigar for Cronulla Golf Club’s super senior pennant team in the final held at Shelly Beach Golf Club on the Central Coast earlier this month.
Cronulla won their division after a four-month long competition involving 54 clubs across NSW to be seeded number one of the sixteen clubs that made it to the finals.
The competition has been running for 15 years and players must be a minimum age of 65-years-old to compete.
Despite their ages, the majority of players still play off single figure handicaps, with the Cronulla team all playing off handicaps less than eight.
Cronulla downed Ryde-Parramatta, Wollongong and then Camden in the semi-final to advance to the final.
But despite their undefeated run to the decider, Cronulla were beaten by a strong team from Forster Tuncurry Golf Club in the final.
Cronulla captain Paul Chaplin said he was extremely proud of his team’s effort.
