Rockdale Council will put forward a submission strongly arguing against a move by Botany Bay Council to take over Sydney Airport land.
During a extraordinary meeting on Wednesday night councillors voted to make submissions on Botany Bay and Kogarah Councils alternate merge proposals.
A plan was also put forward to merge Rockdale and Botany Bay which is dependent on court action by Botany Bay.
Botany Bay has since put forward an alternate proposal that would see it merge with parts of Randwick and City of Sydney.
It also proposes Botany Bay take over the whole of Sydney Airport land including revenue.
Currently Rockdale Council receives around $700,000 a year from Sydney Airport.
Rockdale Council voted to put forward a submission that strongly rejects that proposal.
It objected against the removal of airport revenue as well as recognising the overwhelming objection by Botany Bay residents of a merger with Rockdale.
Kogarah Council has also put forward an alternate proposal that would see it merge with Hurstville and Rockdale while excluding airport land.
Rockdale Council voted to put forward a submission that would support the proposal in parts.
However it would object to the removal of airport land as well as the associated revenue.
It also does not support the reduction of councillors from 15 to 11-13 as suggested by Kogarah.
It also won’t support the removal of wards.
Rockdale Council Mayor Bill Saravinovski will speak on the proposals during the public inquiry on June 15.
