From Broadway to Ballroom is a new show described as a glittering fusion of musical theatre, opera and dance which will play at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre in June.
The show stars seasoned opera performers Liza Beamish and Lachlan Baker and the recently awarded 2015 World Dance Council Champions Emma and Rhett Salmon.
It is described as a stunning combination of ballroom, opera and classic favourite melodies mixed with evocative lighting, star cloth, mirror ball, smoke machine and Liza's and Emma’s multitude of sparkling and glamorous costumes and gowns.
Songs include Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Phantom of the Opera’s All I Ask of You,Bring Him Home from Les Miserables, the Merry Widow Waltz by Franz Lehar,Puccini’s Nessun Dorma from Turandot, My Fair Lady’s I Could have Danced All Night, the stirring You Raise Me Up and operatic arias from Rigoletto and La Traviata by Verdi.
Broadway to Ballroom’s opening number sets the mood with atmospheric lighting, billowing mist and flowing white gowns as Rhett and Emma dance to an orchestral version of the classic ballad Everything I Do, I Do it For You, accompanied by Liza and Lachlan's voices rising to the climactic final verse in true Italian operatic style.
Emma and Rhett’s world class dancing includes jive, tango quickstep, waltz and more, featured both as solos and as a visual accompaniment for the singers.
The show ends with a light-hearted tribute to Australia's favourite dance movie, Strictly Ballroom’s Love is in the Air.
Liza Beamish and Lachlan Baker initially performed together with the Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra over ten years ago.
A member of the original cast of Cameron McIntosh’s Phantom of the Opera in Melbourne, Liza has performed with the Grand Opera at the Sydney Opera House and toured England as an operatic soloist.
Lachlan too has been much in demand as an operatic event singer, having performed in Germany, China, Malaysia, Singapore and every state and major city in Australia including a role of Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables.
