Cronulla Police Station will be beefed up with plans to roster an extra officer during the night.
Miranda Superintendent Michael O’Toole said the extra officer would be stationed at Cronulla three nights a week.
‘’We are always looking on how to improve our service and to do things better,’’ he said.
‘’At the moment we have an officer in the station who can’t go out as a single unit to do jobs at night.
‘’Having two officers attached there gives us the opportunity to respond immediately to the whole range of jobs in that area.
“This may mean the station door could be locked for short periods of time however it just makes sense to get police out on the street helping people and deterring crime, rather than have them stuck behind a counter.’’
He said if people find the station closed they can use the police phone on the wall.
Currently most officers attached to the local area command work from the Miranda police station on Willock Avenue.
