Oil spill causes traffic chaos at Mortdale
An oil spill caused traffic chaos at Mortdale earlier today.
Firefighters from Mortdale were called to Boundary Road just after 9.20am after reports of oil on the road.
Mortdale Fire Station Commander Wayne Challinor said the spill was caused by a garbage truck whose fuel seal had broken.
The oil spill spread all the way from Boundary Road to King Georges Road at Hurstville.
The spill caused traffic chaos with Hurstville Road closed for up to three hours.
The street was eventually reopened this afternoon after up to 20 tonnes of sand was brought in to soak up the oil.
