A year-long project finally came into fruition recently with the completion of a colourful school project for a much-loved teacher.
Connells Point Public School showed its gratitude for primary school teacher Jenni Jessup with a 30-metre mural, painted by her pupils as a symbol of thanks.
Mrs Jessup has taught at the school for more than 20 years.
Complete with some of Australia’s best known flora and fauna, the mural brightens the school’s playground.
The mural’s theme celebrated Australia’s Indigenous history and was influenced by one of the nation’s most recognised Aboriginal artists and writers, Sally Morgan.
It was a timely creative project for 2016 NAIDOC Week, an annual event that celebrates the significant contributions made by the nation’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
Pupils volunteered their time for the mural, working on it during weekends and school holidays.
NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli also visited the school to see the mural and congratulate pupils.
