After 20 of researching the history of Moorefield racecourse Anne Field is in the final furlong.
Her ebook The History of Moorefield Racecourse (1888-1951) will be launched on July 14.
The date will mark 65 years since the last race was run.
A hard copy will be launched in October.
‘’I’ve worked in spits and spurts over the years,’’ she said.
‘’I decided when I retired at the end of 2011 that I would honour my commitment to finish the book.
‘’It’s been a passion and a labor of love.’’
The project started after a chance meeting with former Moorefield Racecourse employee, Ray Cunningham in 1992.
Since then the story has taken her around Australia and led to some interesting finds including an original horseshoe which was found in a neighbor's backyard.
Another lucky find was when someone left an old Moorefield racecourse book in Ms Field’s letterbox.
The book will be divided into sections: the Moore family, the racecourse, jockeys, trainers, horses and stables, Marshall Street, Kogarah Golf Club, Moorefield Racecourse and the sale.
“I hope it will be a really interesting social history,’’ she said.
‘’This is a story that the oldies will relish and it will educate the younger generation that there was a racecourse at Kogarah.
‘’People forget about oral history and if you don’t tell your children stories or your grandchildren stories then it’s gone forever.’’
It won’t be the last book for Ms Field; her next will be a children’s book involving her dog Lizzie.
