Hazelhurst Gallery will host an open day for families tomorrow to launch its new kid-friendly exhibition, Wonder Contemporary Art for Children.
The open day, which goes from 11am to 4pm will include a jumping castle, face painting and roving performers.
The gallery has been transformed into a creative playground for kids with the Wonder Contemporary Art for Children exhibition showing until August 7.
Kids will be able to explore the concept of the gallery as a playground with the experimental work of 11 artists.
They will be able to make their own creatures and psychedelic plants to add to a growing rainbow rainforest by Rosie Deacon in the gallery foyer.
They will be able to touch the forest sculptures, feel inside the hollows and listen to the sounds of creatures.
And there are musical soft sculptures that they can activate by touching, hugging, pushing and jumping in The Sound Playground by Vicky Browne.
Also on show at Hazelhurst is The Adventures of Aecap a show by Brisbane-based artist Alasdair Macintyre who creates theatrical scenarios using large scale interactive pieces featuring the sculpted figure of his charter Aecap.
Kids can also ride with Aecap aboard the Splatsmobile, cozy up to the art-huggy monster, step inside the Junior Artist box or become a Young Master
All this is happening at the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre, 782 Kingsway, Gymea.
