The parent community of Oatley Public School is uniting to give their children access to an improved playground.
The school’s P&C is hosting an event on July 25 to raise money for an outdoor renovation.
Its “Whole of School Renovation Project” will focus on creating an engaging space for pupils while using the school’s natural resources.
The P&C hopes to raise $50,000 for the two-year plan, which is being designed by Urban Landscapes.
Oatley Public School’s split-school site will include a renewable energy space, outdoor learning areas and interactive play spaces.
Fundraising convener Kelly Hunt says children will benefit from the playground makeover.
“Research shows kids learning well outside, so we want to have imaginative play spaces with bright and colourful games like mazes for maths equations or the alphabet,” she said.
“Because we have such a big space it’s easy for it to feel dead, and kids don’t engage in their environment.
“We have lots of rocks and trees, and we’re fortunate to have lots of greenery so we’re trying to incorporate that into the scheme.”
Parents hope to roll out the renovation in phases, as the money comes in.
All proceeds towards the project will be raised from a mums’ night of mind and body pampering, followed by a cocktail party.
Oatley businesses Dalliance Hair, Bitton Cafe, stylist Angela Barbagallo of Style Angel and life coach Rosemary Shapiro-Liu are on board the event.
“It will be the first Monday back after the school holidays, so we’ll all be ready for some ‘me’ time,” Mrs Hunt said.
“I wanted to try to give something back to parents, and it will be nice for the mums to get together and let their hair down.”
