With 50 grandchildren, it is no surprise that a love of family life has kept Malaka Nasr going strong for the past century.
Mrs Nasr marks her 100th birthday this year – a momentous moment for woman who has always lived life to the fullest.
She celebrates her milestone birthday on July 1 at Jenny Lyn Aged Care Facility, Brighton-Le-Sands, where she is a resident.
Born in Egypt in 1916, Mrs Nasr has eight children including five daughters and three sons.
She has eight siblings, 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren (with three more on the way) and six great-great grandchildren.
Her husband died when their children were young, and she raised the family on her own in Egypt.
Mrs Nasr migrated to Australia at age 60, where she regularly spends time with her five children who also live in Australia.
Her love of cooking tasty traditional meals and being a long-time active participant in Coptic Orthodox church services has served as a welcoming memory.
She credits her healthy diet, active lifestyle and a love of family as the key factors in her long and happy life.
