Sutherland community organisation Sutherland Shire Carer Support Service has received a Westpac Foundation Community Grant worth $10,000, for their efforts in improving the lives of people with a disability.
The service is the only stand alone carer community organisation in NSW, providing support to those in the South East Sydney region.
The organisation improves the quality of life for carers by raising awareness about their important roles within the community.
The Community Grants program is designed to foster long-term social change and help to make better futures for youth at risk, women at risk, people living with a disability, Indigenous Australians, refugees, homeless and elderly Australians.
Sutherland Shire Carer Support Service offers monthly support group for carers to participate in skills-based workshops that focus on stress management, communication and assertiveness.
It will also receive additional support including a Westpac Foundation Community Grants Ambassador, mentoring, training and networking opportunities.
