I have lived in the Hughes electorate with my husband and two children for over 30 years. I am a long-standing shire high school teacher and I have served on the current Sutherland Shire Council.
I have been actively involved in a range of local community groups over the years and I am currently the president of the Engadine branch of the ALP. I am also a Justice of the Peace.
As a Sutherland Shire councillor, I listened to the needs of residents and worked tirelessly for my community. I fought excessive developments on council and made sure improvement to critical infrastructure, including parks, sporting fields and footpaths were delivered and maintained for my area.
This fighting spirit for my community is what I bring to the Hughes federal campaign.
My experience as an educator has made me extremely passionate about maintaining the Gonski needs based funding model for education, which is my motivation for entering into the federal arena.
The funding of our TAFE colleges, universities, investment in apprenticeships and early childhood education are all vital for growth and prosperity. Labor’s investment in education is well funded and crucial for our children’s future.
I will also fight to protect Medicare and any cuts by the Turnbull government to health care services.
I know that housing affordability is a critical issue for young people as well as renewable energy and the NBN to create new jobs and investment. I will work towards achieving these goals.
Further, I intend working with state and local governments to improve roads and critical infrastructure in our region.
I believe a change is definitely needed in this electorate as the Liberal government has taken this safe seat for granted for too long and if elected on July 2, I will dedicate myself to working tirelessly for the constituents of Hughes.
