The Heathcote railway station upgrade has taken a major step forward, with huge cranes lifting a precast steel footbridge into position above the tracks.
Long-time Heathcote East resident Patrick Kennedy was on hand to photograph the work, which took place last weekend.
The new bridge connects to the existing footbridge over Princes Highway.
When the work is completed, people will be able to cross easily between Heathcote East and the shopping strip on the western side of the highway using the extended bridge and lifts at each end.
The upgrade will include new forecourts on both sides of the station and an accessible toilet on the station platform.
Commuter parking will be improved, including the provision of formal kiss and ride areas and relocation of bicycle storage facilities.
