Rockdale Council has endorsed the Cahill Park master plan with only a few minor changes.
Council released a draft plan last year setting out ideas for the park, including upgraded lighting, a new cafe or restaurant, new playground, picnic and barbecue areas, upgraded sporting facilities, a fenced off-leash dog exercise area and rehabilitation of the foreshore.
Following the public consultation councillors endorsed the final plan at a meeting earlier this month.
The final plan has some minor changes including moving the pedestrian bridge over Princes Highway closer to the intersection of Brodie Spark Drive.
There was also further defining of a possible sporting zone including a sporting amenities building, possible commercial opportunities and car parking to the west of the existing sports amenities building.
A report to council showed that of the 96 people that responded to a survey on the plans 88 per cent supported it.
To address concerns about the timeline Rockdale Council has set out a list of 10 priority projects.
They include new pathways and improved circulation, environmentally friendly foreshore and channel rehabilitation, a Cafe/Restaurant with public amenities, picnic and BBQs, playground, partial enclosure of channel to connect the parklands, improved sporting facilities, fitness zones, improved parking and fenced off-leash dog exercise area.
