Georges River Council has received $10 million from the Stronger Communities Fund provided by the NSW Government to support the recent amalgamation of Kogarah and Hurstville Councils.
Georges River Council administrator, John Rayner said the Stronger Communities Fund provides new Councils with funds to kick-start the delivery of community-oriented projects and initiatives that directly improve community infrastructure and services.
“This funding presents exciting opportunities for Council to work directly and collaboratively with the local community for everyone’s long-term benefit,’’ he said.
Mr Rayner said that of the $10 million funding total provided to Georges River Council, $1 million is earmarked for local Georges River community groups who will be invited to apply for grants each worth up to $50,000.
“To be successful for funding, community projects must deliver social, cultural, economic or environmental benefits to local communities.
“Applicants must have a clear project objective, plan for and demonstrate a capacity to manage funds and deliver the project, and show the benefit their project will have for the community.”
Council is currently developing an application process and guidelines for community groups with relevant information to be released in July 2016.
