A man, 21, was arrested after allegedly threatening people with a replica handgun at Cronulla on Friday night.
A police spokesman said, about 10.30pm, a man, 20, was walking with several friends along Gerrale Street when three men walking behind started to yell at them.
The three men caught up with the 20-year-old and his friends and one of the trio produced what appeared to be a black handgun and pointed it at the young man.
“The 20-year-old and his friends ran to a nearby licensed premises and joined the queue outside the venue,” the spokesman said..
“The armed man approached the queue and attempted to instigate an altercation, allegedly lifting his shirt and showing the handgun that was tucked into his pants, on several occasions.
“Security staff intervened and confronted the armed man, who left the area in a vehicle.
“Police were alerted and officers from Miranda stopped the vehicle in Waratah Street shortly afterwards.
“A 21-year-old man was arrested and a handgun, later identified as a replica, was located in the vehicle and seized.
“The man was taken to Miranda Police Station and later charged with possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, common assault, stalk / intimidate with intent to fear physical harm, being armed with intent to commit indictable offence and offensive behaviour.
“The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.”
