A concept plan for a $75 million redevelopment of Illawong Shopping Village, including a Coles supermarket and four apartment blocks, will be unveiled this week.
Development company, CCS Property Holdings Group, is holding a community information session on Thursday, July 7 at the Illawong Community Centre.
Residents have been invited to “drop in” between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
The event has been co-ordinated by planning consultant JBA, whose similar briefing for the proposed Heathcote Hall redevelopment was taken over by angry residents.
CCS Property Holdings Group development manager Martin Cork said the company was investigating redevelopment options to revitalise the centre on behalf of new owner, Illawong Shopping Centre Holdings Pty Ltd.
“Options being considered include an upgraded shopping centre to provide a new Coles supermarket, specialty retail shops and two levels of underground car parking,” he said.
“Four residential apartment buildings are being considered above the new shopping centre to provide more homes in the heart of the Illawong town centre.”
“A concept plan is currently being prepared to explore the development potential of the site.”
Mr Cork said the concept plan would comply with the Sutherland Shire Local Environment Plan 2015 and Draft Sutherland Shire Development Control Plan 2015.
“An accompanying development application is also being prepared, which marks the first step in the planning process,” he said.
”As part of this process, we will be consulting with the community and stakeholders to capture important feedback before the plans are finalised.”
Mr Cork said the community information session would give residents the opportunity to view the initial concept plan, speak to the project team and provide feedback.
“This feedback will be included in a consultation report that will be submitted with the development application to Sutherland Shire Council,” he said.
“The project has a capital investment value of more than $20 million, therefore the determining authority will be the Joint Regional Planning Panel.”
