They’ve been training hard and soon Team Ability – ten enthusiastic clients from St George Sutherland Community College (SGSCC) disAbility and their support team – are going to take to the course to be part of the Sutherland 2 Surf 2016 event.
The goal isn’t just the finish line, but to raise much needed funds needed to buy a new van with wheelchair access.
Not everyone in Team Ability plans to take on the entire 11km course from Sutherland to Wanda Surf Club. Some of the group will commence the journey midway.
And while making record time isn’t on the agenda, Team Ability is proud and excited to be part of the major massive community event.
Team Ability is all about highlighting what this group of individuals can do. Team Ability can, and will, show the community on the day that nothing should prevent people with disabilities from participating.
SGSCC disAbility works to ensure that clients with disabilities are included in activities that people unhindered by disability may take for granted.
“We believe that people with disabilities should not be excluded or segregated,’’ an SGSCC spokeswoman said.
“You can see this philosophy in action on the SGSCC campus, where people with disabilities learn alongside people studying accredited courses, International and leisure students.
