Giants Baseball Club are on the look out for their next generation of players.
The club will give kids aged four to eight the chance to come and try T-ball on Sunday.
Giants, who play out of Apsley Field at Taren Point, are also celebrating their 101st year as a club.
Giants have 140 junior players in their ranks and had 20 feature in junior representative teams last season.
The come and try T-ball day runs from 1pm to 4pm with registrations for the new season available on the day.
Club president Mark Burns said their was a large focus on fundamentals and fun when it came to T-ball.
“T-ball is our entry level and it’s all about having fun,” he said.
“They hit off a stationary tee so there’s no chance of being hit by a wayward ball. We teach them correct throwing and catching techniques. And they learn hand-eye coordination with their batting. You’ve got a lot of fine motor skills in play.
“As a club we concentrate on the fundamentals of catching and throwing and what you get from a young age is a lot of success and enjoyment with the sport.”
T-ball, for children aged four to eight, is the development stage of the sport, followed by machine pitch for eight and nine-year-olds before they move to baseball at age 10.
It is another big year for Giants, who have three players off to Japan to represent Australia’s under-15s team and another three off to Michigan in the US for the under-14s World Series.
Club secretary Michelle Grant said Giants were a real family club.
“I’ve got a son that plays and my husband coaches,” she said.
“Our young players have had some success recently and a lot of that comes down to our very good coaches and the way they coach the fundamentals.
“A lot of our coaches played at high representative levels with NSW or Australian. And a lot are now coaching rep teams or state teams as well.”
The club’s home base is located on Holt Road at Taren Point, behind Flower Power.
