New lifts at Arncliffe station and the nearby pedestrian tunnel opened on Thursday.
Four lifts have been installed at the station as part of an upgrade that also includes new canopies and security screens on the footbridge and platforms, upgraded CCTV camera surveillance and rwo family accessible toilets.
New sheltered bus stops, taxi rank and a kiss-and-ride zone on Firth Street are other elements of the project.
Transport for NSW said the upgrade was completed ahead of schedule.
The new pedestrian link passes under the rail line between Wollongong Road and Arncliffe Street.
Promised before the 2011 State election, it will particularly benefit pupils of Al Zahra College.
The pedestrian tunnel was designed to allow maximum use of natural lighting as well as installation of safety features such as CCTV surveillance and lighting.
The interior has been enhanced with murals inspired by artwork provided by students from the Al Zahra College.
