Re the article “Brink of closure” (Leader, July 27). Yes business seems slow at Ramsgate Beach Plaza.

Road workers and builders taking up parking spaces Rockdale Council could police this.
Shop owners park their own vehicles in private car park under sign which reads “Tenants no parking fine $150”.
Just a few observations.

A great idea, but where could Aldi go? There is no room for such a large shop and design, and yes parking is a problem due to alterations to Ramsgate Road.
Don West
This seems silly to me. You can’t force Aldi to move if they have not got plans to do so and what would Coles say about that?
I shop at IGA at Oatley and have no problems with them so what is wrong with the Ramsgate one? Make the parking two hours and see if that improves things.
Maybe people are parking and then getting the bus to the city. If there is no parking how could people stop even if Aldi was there?
Enid Duncan
There is so much activity going on there at the moment and there is not enough parking and I think you will find not many people put their cars away in the units surrounding that area. Also so much building of units and roadwork.
I hate parking there. It’s dangerous and I can understand that not many people want to go there at the moment. There is nowhere to put an Aldi. There is Coles and IGA there. I would rather do my shopping at Rockdale Plaza where there is parking underneath and no hassle.
Pamela Schofield
That was a small Franklins not like the large format one at Taren Point. They simply don’t have the space to carry a full range of items. These shops are probably also effected by the full line Super Barn supermarket that opened on Rocky Point Road.

I train at the gym next to Froth and customers are def there well before 10.30am. Once construction finishes everything will go back to normal. These people don’t like change and will appreciate everything once it all goes back to normal.
Kostas Korkidas
Sounds more like a parking issue. Make it 1-2 hours to stop people using it as a commuter car park or not shopping there. That would be a quicker and simpler solution than hoping for a change in supermarkets.
Ian Zuman
I was going to go there on the way home from the city. But there’s no parking so we went to Caringbah instead.
Chris Jones
Make it 4-hour parking to discourage all day parking.
David Connolly
More parking would encourage me to stop.

What merger savings?
The Reserve Bank has announced that Australia’s current inflation rate has dropped to exactly 1 per cent.
We have just received our first rates notice for the newly formed Georges River Council.
These rates have increased by more than 3.8 per cent on last year’s rates notice.
When will the amalgamation of Hurstville and Kogarah councils lead to the savings that the state government promised?
To those who forced this on residents who had no vote in the matter please take note - we are watching and waiting.
