ABC Gardening Australia presenter, Angus Stewart, has just finished filming a segment in Sutherland Shire for the program’s preview of spring.
He was with a film crew at the Joseph Banks Native Plants Reserve, Manooka Place at Kareela on Wednesday filming a segment on how to plant out natives now that spring is just around the corner.
While at the reserve, they also filmed segments on some plants currently in flower, including the striking Acacia aphylla, or leafless Rock Wattle.
“The producer was also so impressed with the location, that he plans to return to film a whole segment showcasing this little known shire gem,” Australian Plants Society Sutherland group spokesman Ralph Cartwright said.
While Wattle Day is September 1, the reserve is already ablaze with six different types of wattle already blooming.
In addition, the grevilleas are also starting to come out.
“The place looks stunning at the moment.”
The APS group have recently been allocated funding to provide new interpretative signage in several location to augment the plant labels already in place for over 500 of the plants throughout the reserve.
The segment filmed on Wednesday will be shown on ABC TV on Saturday, September 23rd.
The reserveis open every day and the Sutherland Group of the Australian Plants Society is holding a special 'Wattle Walk and Talk' on Saturday, August 27.
“If you want to bring the kids, just tell them that the reserve is a hot-bed of Pokemon activity, with five Pokestops and two gyms to keep them busy while you stroll around the beautiful gardens,” Mr Cartwright said.
