With two line breaks either side of halftime, halfback Anthony Milford inspired the Brisbane Broncos to a much needed 38-16 win over the Parramatta Eels at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
The scores were locked at 10-10 before Milford made a break down the left-hand side that eventually ended in a scintillating try to winger Corey Oates on the stroke of halftime.
Then after the break Milford broke through again, this time scoring his first try since round 15 in a welcome display of form for the Broncos.
His halves partner Ben Hunt also joined in on the action, scoring a try of his own in the 61st minute.
Despite leading the competition early in the year, the Broncos have had just five wins from their past 13 matches, and questions were being asked if Milford and Hunt would return to the form they displayed earlier in the year.
Signs were good for the Eels early on when winger Bevan French crossed in the 4th minute to give the side a six-point lead.
But the second half was almost all one-way traffic, as the Broncos ran in five tries to one – Danny Wicks crossed in the 77th minute in what was little more than consolation.
The Broncos will next face-off against the Bulldogs, while the Eels have a tough road trip to Canberra ahead of them.
