Everyone should wear a checked shirt and jeans to Gannons Park, Peakhurst, when “The Country comes to the City” at the annual Lugarno Lions Spring Festival on Sunday, September 18.
With an anticipated crowd in excess of 40,000 people, John Hughes, from the Tea Gardens Lions, who is also Line Dance Australia Association president, has invited all the Line Dance Clubs to show the crowd what line dancing is all about.
The crowd isn't there just to watch, after a Line Dancing demonstration at 11am and in a bold attempt to break the Tamworth Music Festival record of 6,744 line dancers Lugarno revelers will be invited at 1pm to join with the clubs to “Line Dance with the Lions”.
About 100 line dance club members will teach the public “my first steps” dance before the actual attempt record at 1.30pm.
It is a tall order, but all in good fun to raise money for the Australian Lions Children’s Cancer Research Foundation through a gold coin bucket collection from participants.
The Spring Festival at Gannons Park is far more than just a fun attempt on the record number of line dancers, it’s the largest carnival outside the Royal Easter Show with 200 market stalls, show bags and food galore.
There will also be more than 300 classic vehicles, free live entertainment on three stages hosted by televison and radio personality Susie Elelman.
Once again there will be Medieval Mortal Combat & Mayhem, dressage, farm animal petting and a live reptile display – with camel and pony rides as well.
Parking is easy with a $5 charge (for charity) per vehicle all day.
